My Story
Abraham Maslow said, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do".
It was with this in mind that my dream of creating and holding space for an individual, couple, family, or group to improve their mental wellness took root.
My Qualifications
I am a registered Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA (Health Professions Counsel of South Africa) since 2007.
I believe in lifelong learning, and therefore grow my own knowledge, skills, and attitudes continuously. In this way I ensure that my clients obtain the best possible service on their journey of growth and healing.
My initial work focused on management and leadership development. From this experience, I realised that being a good leader/manager requires a deeper understanding of yourself. To lead others essentially starts with leading yourself. I also realised that painful experiences in people's pasts hugely impacted what they were doing in the present, sometimes hindering growth and development.
Previous Experience
Initially, I worked in the field of Organisational Development and Human Resource Development. Once registered as a Psychologist, I worked in the trauma healing sphere. The experience of holding space for individuals, families, and groups who had been through traumatic incidents allowed me to witness the resilience of people when provided with the appropriate healing space.
I have also worked in the Higher Education setting, supporting students who, despite facing enormous challenges - such as depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, and self-esteem issues - continued in their pursuit of education and growth.
My Approach
My journey has brought me to my present Practice, where I incorporate all my learnings thus far in order to offer my clients a space to explore, learn and grow. I have an integrative approach which places my client at the center of the work we do together. I endeavour to provide a space which is warm, non-judgemental, empathic and collaborative. My approach is trauma-informed and holds the body-mind connection as central to healing. I strive to always be culturally and gender sensitive in my interactions with my clients.
Starting the journey of addressing your mental health and wellness can be daunting. The first step is often the hardest. I invite you to enter into this space, one which I have carefully created, as a supportive environment where my clients can safely take that first step.
